THE 5 STEP PLAN TO STOP DRIFTING AND START LIVING WITH GREATER INTENTION
STOP DRIFTING RELATIONALLY, SO YOU CAN SUCCEED IN WHAT MATTERS MOST IN LIFE.
Baptism is a public declaration of a brand new association.
1. It symbolizes what Jesus did for me.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT) I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
2. It symbolizes what has happened to me.
Romans 6:3-4 (GW) Don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? When we were baptized into his death, we were placed into the tomb with him. As Christ was brought back from death to life by the glorious power of the Father, so we, too, should live a new kind of life.
1.Jesus commanded believers to be baptized.
Matthew 28:19 (MSG) “Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”
2. Baptism is a step of obedience to Jesus’ command.
John 14:15 (NLT) [Jesus said] "If you love me, obey my commandments.”
3. Jesus wants all believers to profess Him publicly.
Matthew 10:32-33 (GW) So I will acknowledge in front of my Father in heaven that person who acknowledges me in front of others. But I will tell my Father in heaven that I don't know the person who tells others that he doesn't know me.
Jesus modeled baptism by immersion.
Mark 1:9-11 (NLT) “One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized Him in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on Him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, "You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy."
The word “baptizo” in the Greek language means to sink, submerge, immerse, or to bury.
That is how John the Baptist in the Bible got his name! He was known as the baptizer. He was baptizing those who were embracing his message about the coming Messiah. John later baptized Jesus. Every example in the New Testament, including Jesus Christ, was baptism by immersion.
Every example in the New Testament demonstrates a three-fold spiritual pattern:
Step 1: Hear the message of Christ.
Step 2: Receive the message of Christ
Step 3: Publically profess Christ as savior through baptism by immersion
Acts 8:35-38 (TLB) So Philip began with this same Scripture and then used many others to tell him about Jesus. As they rode along, they came to a small body of water, and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! Why can’t I be baptized?" "You can," Philip answered, "if you believe with all your heart." And the eunuch replied, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." He stopped the chariot, and they went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
